        The Urupiy Voyager Project has been set up by Triton Films in memory of Jesus Urupiy,  who will be remembered as one of the  paliuwelap "great navigators" of the Weriyeng  school of navigators in Micronesia for his revival of the ancient Pwo ceremony on Lamotrek in 1990.

        Urupiy was devoted to the art, education, and practice of traditional Micronesian navigational lore and techniques during his long life and it is in this spirit that his son, Ali Haleyalur, seeks to build a sailing canoe so that Urupiy's students and their apprentice navigators may continue his legacy and teachings.  They want to build a sailing canoe so that they can sail in Urupiy's name to educate apprentice navigators in long-distance voyaging.   For this purpose they want to construct a waaliwaiy voyaging canoe approximately 30 feet in length.

        The second goal is to provide funding so that the Urupiy Voyager Project can be self-sustaining and continue to engage in traditional navigation education via long-range voyaging expeditions.   Over the long haul this will require the purchase of new sail cloth to replace damaged and worn sails that result from the normal wear and tear of voyaging expeditions as well as other maintenance costs such as  exterior  painting to protect the hull.

        Towards this end the Lamo Serai Boyz band from Lamotrek have produced a music CD with support from Triton Films entitled, Island Micronesia and would like all revenues from the distribution of their CD to go directly into the Urupiy Voyager Project fund.   Click here  to listen to music samples from this wonderful CD.   Currently we are aiming for distribution of the CD on the internet at Amazon.com.   But there is a problem — to market the CD on Amazon.com the musical recordings must go through a "mastering" process  and the CD graphics professionally mounted for distribution.
